HUNGARIAN AMERICAN CLUB OF NEW MEXICO
The Club was founded in 1988 to foster Hungarian culture among those residents of New Mexico who are of Hungarian descent, and others who may not be but interested in preserving ethnic cultures. There are over 100 families and individuals as members. Some emigrated as far back as 1940, many are second, third generation, and several are 1956ers or more recently arrived. Often, Hungarian students come to the University of New Mexico, or as high school students and are welcomed in the Club.
Twice a year, a newsletter is distributed digitally, on the web. Three to five times a year we gather for celebrations on Sunday afternoons… for the March Revolution in 1848, a picnic, St Stephen’s Day, the 1956 Revolution and Year-end Holidays. We have Hungarian food, poems, music, travelogues and many other discussions and speeches. Guests are welcome.
